What exactly is the Disney vacation club membership, and how does it work? Read on to find out.

Prime Disney Vacation Club Benefits

How do Disney vacation club benefits work? A Disney vacation club membership is a type of timeshare arrangement.

If you don’t already know, timeshare means that you share ownership of a vacation property. Multiple owners will get exclusive rights to the property for specific time periods.

Timeshares work for a fixed period, such as a week or a year. Fixed vacation weeks can be limiting though, and cumbersome.

The Disney vacation club takes a unique approach by customizing the packages for Disney enthusiasts. The timeshare program belongs to Disney, and it covers a total of 14 different results.

You’ll have access to 11 of the Disney vacation club (DVC) resorts at Walt Disney World locations. There’s also a Disney vacation club DVC resort in Disneyland, California.

Members can also stay at the Hilton Head in South Carolina, or they could choose to go off to Oahu, Hawaii, or Vero Beach, Florida. Primarily, members tend to use their Disney vacation points for one of the 11 Disney World or Disneyland timeshare resorts

How the Disney Vacation Club Points Work

How do the Disney vacation club points operate? DVC is one of the first-time share brands to incorporate a points-based system for owners. Once you become an owner of a DVC member, you’ll have a contract that indicates exactly how many points you get.

How often do your points renew? You’ll receive the points annually.

How many points will you receive? The number of points you receive will be up to you, and it’s going to depend on your vacation preferences.

If you travel a lot, you’ll need more points. Whereas, if you only plan on going to one of the resorts once a year, you could get a low point membership.

Where Points Work

When you’re an owner, you can use the points to make reservations at any of the 15 available timeshare resorts. This will give you the most variety on your vacation, and it helps when you need to make last-minute reservations.

DVC members can also reserve resort rooms that aren’t available to the public. If you plan on traveling during peak travel seasons, such as the holidays, your membership will come in quite handy.

Home Resort Perks

All of the DVC contracts will attach to a specific home resort. The home resort is where you’ll have priority booking windows. The priority booking window gives you an advantage over other DVC members.

Make sure you choose a priority home resort that’s a location you’ll enjoy visiting a lot. You should also take into account what the weather will be like.

Florida has a unique climate, and the summers can be intense! A lot of vacationers find Fall and Spring to be the best times to visit.

Banking and Borrowing Points

What happens if you don’t use all of your points in one year? You can bank your points within the first 8 months of the use year. That way you can vacation when you want to, instead of having to squish a vacation into a specific week.

Banking points is one of the biggest perks of being a DVC member, rather than a traditional timeshare holder. However, you’ll need to make sure you understand how the banking system operates. For instance, you can’t re-bank banked points.

No Double Banking

You can only bank points once. Double banking isn’t allowed.

If you have points sitting in the reserve, you’ll have to use them the following year. Otherwise, they will go to waste. If you don’t want bank points, you can also look into borrowing points.

For instance, let’s say that you use up all of your DVC membership points but still want to take another vacation. You can borrow points from the upcoming year, so you don’t have to spend more money. We suggest traveling earlier in the use year because you’ll have more flexibility if you need to cancel.

Cancellation Tips

You can always cancel your DVC reservation within 30 days of the check-in date. If you wind up canceling, your points don’t go to waste.

Instead, your DVC membership points will go into a holding account. You’ll then have the entire use year to use the points before they expire.

If you have points in the holding account, you’ll have to use them first. You can’t bank holding account points. For holding account points, you’ll need to make reservations that aren’t more than 60 days in advance.

Making Advanced Reservations

How far in advance will you be able to make your reservations at a DVC resort? You can make your reservations as much as 11 months in advance of your check-in date!

For instance, let’s say you want to plan a vacation for Christmas. You could call in January to schedule the Christmas vacation 11 months away.

Are you planning on staying in a DVC resort that isn’t your home resort? Then the reservation has to be within 7 months of the check-in date.

However, keep in mind that you won’t have priority booking if you plan to travel outside your home resort. Since home resorts fill up quickly, we suggest using your home resort during the popular seasons.

How to Become a Member

Becoming a DVC member is fast and easy! The membership starts when you purchase real estate in a Disney vacation club resort. As long as the club resort uses vacation points, you’ll be a member.

Each year you’ll be able to use your specific modification points to book your vacations at your home resort or other locations around the world. You can customize the membership to your exact needs to avoid paying for more than you want.

Membership Process

First, you’ll let a DVC team member know what your vacation goals are. Then they’ll be able to offer you a customized membership that suits your style and budget. F
